engaged! neil and jodi

These two are stylin’. I love what Neil and Jodi wore to their engagement shoot. It fit the chilly weather and showed a bit of their personality. They really did a great job of being themselves and I think it made their photographs feel naturally candid.

It’s a bit tricky to photograph in the middle of the day when the sun’s shining the brightest and there isn’t much shade to use, but somehow it added to these images, casting nice shadows and sun flares. A few of the images look like they were taken “somewhere else”…wherever that might be...

engaged! robbie and jenny

When Robbie, Jenny and I got together for their engagement session it was a fuh-reezing 37 degrees. So at the beginning, when they took their coats off, it was like…. “Hit it!”

Sometimes it takes a minute to relax when you’re being photographed. But once the person in front of the camera realizes, hey-this isn’t torture, they can just be themselves and it goes really well. Jenny kept saying, “Robbie, relax!” and giving him a little shake. Which was a photo opp to me, even though he’d probably rather not remember that particular part.

Because I’m usually so focused on what I’m doing when photographing, I’m not that affected by the weather. And a lot of the time, you can’t really tell the temperature in a picture. But after spending an hour or so in the 37 degree air, it felt like -20, and I couldn’t feel my trigger finger or my entire hand anymore….time to stop!

They're such a great couple and I'm looking forward to capturing their warm-weather wedding next June.
